Constitutionalism has gradually taken root in East Asia/Asia. Constitutional review is now being performed in most, if not all, of East Asia/Asia by courts of general jurisdiction or specialized constitutional courts. However, traditional law school approach to the study of constitutional law pays almost little attention to the interaction between constitutional adjudication and politics and to the impact of this interaction on the development of constitutional law in East Asia including Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Mongolia, China, Hong Kong as well as some Southeast Asian States.
This seminar is aimed at serving as an initial step to the understanding of East Asian/Asian constitutionalism. The topic of this seminar will include constitutional change, democracy and political participation and free speech. Students in this seminar are encouraged to have strong participation in the course, as the success of the seminar heavily depends upon the contributions of all participants.

在當代自由民主憲政秩序的發展上，東亞國家愈來愈占有相當之份量，尤其在1980年代末期，南韓及臺灣相繼成為全球表現亮眼之新興民主憲政國家後，更是如此。但由於語言的限制，東亞（及亞洲）各國間並沒有相通的語言，使得東亞或亞洲比較憲法的研究與教學，發展並不容易。所幸，在近年比較研究風潮之下，各國都愈來愈重視將相關憲法發展（尤其是憲法裁判）予以英文化，提供了使用英文的研究者一個深入瞭解東亞（及亞洲）憲政發展並進行比較研究的契機。因此，在台灣思考或研究比較憲法、甚或憲法學理之相關問題，也不能再僅僅是唯歐美國家是瞻。
